Vienna Part II

Yesterday was a misty day in Vienna (or as the locals call it "Wien") but that didn't stop me from going out and exploring!  I started by visiting the famous coffee house "Demel" for breakfast.  It was absolutely gorgeous with high ceilings, crown molding everywhere, and chandeliers in every room.  Definitely a notch up from Starbucks :) After that I trekked out to the Schonbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the Hapsburgs.  It was absolutely gorgeous and the plus side about the weather was that there were hardly any tourists there.

On the way back to my hotel I stopped by the Naschmarkt, a HUGE permanent market filled with bistros, restaurants, and stalls selling everything from cheese to exotic spices and fruits to meats to nuts to wine...the result being an amazing sensory overload.  Every five feet a different scent comes across your nose, the vendors yell at you trying to get you to try their product {in German of course}, and foods are available in every color of the rainbow.

Finally, I headed to Musikverein to see the Vienna Chamber Orchestra perform.  It was absolutely beautiful, and the room they played in -- WOW!  It was in the Golden Hall, and the theater was completely built for royalty.  The whole space was gold, which when combined with the glowing chandeliers and the ethereal classical music completely reminded me of something right out of Greek mythology.
